The story
On the day Peter Grant and Jenny Sutton were to register their marriage, she has him removed from the city hall and arrives with her childhood sweetheart, Ronald Walsh, telling Peter that once she divorces, she will marry him. That night, Peter follows his family's plan and leaves the country for a marriage of convenience, cutting Jenny out of his life.
Three years later he returns with his wife, Ellie Olsen, a CEO, to pay respects at her family's graves. When Ellie is pulled away, the local branch sends someone to collect him — and it is Jenny, waiting with Ronald and their friends, who mock Peter as the lapdog who crawled back and offer him the job of caring for Ronald's child. They do not know his Elnish name is the one on their sign, or that the watch on his wrist is the one Ellie gave him.
When Jenny strikes him for speaking Ellie's name, Peter must decide whether to reveal who he has become.
Opening
She looks at me without a flicker of guilt and says, "Ronald's kid needs his legal status sorted out. Once we divorce, I'll marry you."
Everyone assumes I'll wait. I'm the devoted fool who's already waited seven years, so one more month seems trivial.
