The story
Riley Harper races through a hospital lobby with seven minutes left to pay the deposit for her mother-in-law Eleanor's emergency plasma exchange. Eleanor is dying of Amanita poisoning from wild mushrooms. But two police officers block her path, summoned by her husband Nathaniel Harper, who accuses her of stealing fifty thousand dollars in marital assets.
Nathaniel snatches the card from her hands, mocking her as a liar and a parasite. He ignores her pleas, the ticking clock, and the ICU's darkening emergency light. When Eleanor is pronounced dead, Nathaniel arrives at the interrogation room with divorce papers, offering to drop the charges only if Riley signs away everything and admits to fraud.
Riley signs, walking away with nothing. As Nathaniel celebrates his freedom with his sister Lexi, Riley's quiet parting words promise that his sleep will soon be troubled.
