The story
In a previous life, Celeste Frost was dying of a terminal illness when she won a two-million-dollar lottery. Her mother urged her to skip treatment and give the winnings to her younger brother, David Frost, for his marriage. Celeste refused and donated the money to an orphanage. Furious, her parents severed ties and abandoned her at the hospital, where she died alone on April 4th, David's birthday, while the family celebrated. When the nurse called to ask them to claim her body, they refused, saying she was no longer family.
A voice asked what she wanted most. She whispered, "Love." She woke back on January 4th, the day she won the lottery, with a hospital message urging her to begin treatment. Resolved to leave her parents, she had a lawyer draft an emancipation agreement.
Yet when she reached her childhood home, her mother greeted her warmly, and a new pair of pink rabbit slippers from her father waited inside.
Opening
In my previous life, I had been suffering from a terminal illness when I won the lottery.
To my shock, Mommy advised me to forgo treatment and leave the winnings to my younger brother, David, to use for his marriage.
I refused to become an accessory to his future, so, behind my parents’ backs, I donated every bit of it to an orphanage.
