The story
Seven months pregnant, a wife goes to book a suite at a luxury postpartum recovery center, only to be told that her husband registered there six months ago with a different spouse on file. The staff shows her a marriage certificate and photos: her husband, Alex, beaming beside a woman she has never seen. Branded a shameless homewrecker, she is escorted out by security before she can explain.
She calls Alex, who is overseas on a business trip for his company's expansion and IPO. On a video call he swears he only loves her, and she recalls their college courtship, his vow that she is the only one for him, and the shares he gave her as a dowry. When a product launch falls into crisis, she goes to the company headquarters herself, where the woman from the photos stands up before the cameras, waves a marriage certificate and asks who she really is.
As the livestream turns on her, she insists her marriage to Alex is legal, though their certificate was torn up and is being replaced. She calls the other woman's document a forgery. Only one of them can be Alex Thorne's wife.

As the staff member entered my information to finalize the contract, she gave me a strange look. “Ms. Vance, our system shows your husband registered with us six months ago.”
“But the spouse on file… it’s not you.”
I was completely baffled. I pulled out my wedding photo with Alex, holding it up as proof.
The staffer rolled her eyes and turned her monitor toward me. “Mr. Thorne has been married for five years.
