The story
A wife returns early from a business trip after a neighbor's message about her husband and another woman. Inside the apartment, her husband Derek is gone, but under the bed she finds a severed head and a naked corpse. When Derek comes back, she hides in the closet and watches him cradle the head, kiss it, and dismember the body with a meat cleaver, humming cheerfully.
Then he spots her fallen pearl earring and realizes she may be home. As he calls her phone, she shuts it off just in time. She tries to slip out through the open living room, but a knock at the door stops her—the neighbor Karen, fishing for gossip. Derek answers calmly while the wife hides behind the couch, trapped between a killer and a nosy neighbor who may expose her.
She came to catch a cheater. Now she is hiding from a monster.
Opening
I was on a business trip when my neighbor texted to say my husband had brought home some gorgeous woman.
I booked the next flight home.
Derek wasn't there. I tore through the place like a lunatic.
"You slut! Show yourself!"
I bent down to check under the bed and found a bloody corpse.
Her head had been cut off. Her eyes were wide open, staring right at me.
I nearly jumped out of my skin.
