The story
As the princess of the Spirit Realm, Sybil was born bonded to Heartseeker, one of the ten legendary celestial swords. For a century she bathed in molten bronze and fed the blade her lifeblood so its spirit would awaken, only to be run through by the sword she had nurtured on the day it finally took form. The Blade Spirit loved her half-sister, Joanne, all along.
When Sybil opens her eyes again, she is back on the day of the awakening ceremony, watching Joanne demand a blood trial to claim Heartseeker. This time Sybil does not resist. Heartseeker flies to Joanne, while the humble bronze sword Joanne discarded chooses Sybil instead. Its engravings speak of harvest and of mountains, rivers, grass, and trees, and it will not accept her blood until she tends the mortal world.
Looking through the Mirror of Souls, Sybil finds a famine stretching a thousand miles, and Joanne, wielding Heartseeker, has no intention of ending it.
Opening
In my last life, to hasten the birth of its Blade Spirit, I endured daily baptisms in scorching bronze water and anointed it with my own blood.
On the day the Blade Spirit finally formed, celestial energy converged from across the world, shaking the very foundations of existence. The Celestial Emperor himself descended from the heavens to grant me divinity, bestowing upon me dominion over mortal fate.
