The story
For five years, Chloe has stood beside Ethan, a man who calls romance useless and puts everything off with a casual "later." When their fifth anniversary dinner is dismissed as shallow consumerism, she quietly accepts it—until she finds two VIP concert tickets in his briefcase, their envelope marked with the initials of his new intern, Hailey. The concert, the welcome party, the postponed house: his patience and care are saved for someone else.
As Ethan lies to their parents about delaying the purchase and expects Chloe to smooth it over, she says nothing. She has already canceled the deposit on the house they were meant to buy together, and reopened a long-dormant chat with Claire, a bakery owner in a coastal town.
Now a contract waits on her phone, and the position she once turned down is hers—if she reports in two days. Five years of waiting end here, and Chloe is ready to leave with zero regrets.

For our fifth anniversary, I asked him to take me to the new Michelin-starred restaurant in town.
He shot the idea down immediately, annoyance written all over his face.
