The story
Diana's luck changed the day she took in a stray poodle: a promotion, a hefty raise, and a proposal from Eleanor Wayan, matriarch of a powerful family, who hand-picked her as her daughter-in-law. Then her roommate Sophie pushed her off a rooftop, screaming that she deserved that life instead. When Diana opens her eyes, she is back at the beginning, and this time she lets Sophie keep the dog.
Sophie, it turns out, has been reborn too, and she believes the poodle is her ticket to marrying into wealth. She parades it through the office, certain that the important client arriving that day is the dog's original owner, Eleanor Wayan. Diana stays silent, remembering a warning she once received: some poodles have a dark side.
As Eleanor lifts the poodle into her arms and offers Sophie any reward she desires, Diana notices the older woman's gaze is not grateful but predatory, like a hunter dangling bait.

It wasn't just landing the company's biggest account and getting a promotion with a hefty raise. The matriarch of a powerful family, Eleanor Wayan, hand-picked me to be her daughter-in-law. She offered me a car, a house, and promised to transfer all her assets to my future child.
I was ready to refuse, but then she showed me a photo of her son, who was away on business overseas. And I, a total sucker for a handsome face, was sold.
