The story
For seven years, Wren Mallory has stood beside Giles Taylor, bearing every insult while he kept her hidden. Now Beryl Swanson, whose husband died saving Giles, is the one he plans to marry — a wedding he calls a debt of gratitude. Wren, five months pregnant, learns of it while secretly trying on a bridal gown, and Beryl chooses the same dress.
Giles insists nothing between him and Wren will change, that she will understand. He moves Beryl into the unit below their home, and Beryl posts about their wedding home. When Beryl's parents mistake Wren for a mistress and strike her, Giles looks away.
Wren must decide whether to keep the baby and whether to walk away from the man who always asks her to be understanding.
