The story
A murderer who spent years on the run suddenly posts online, confessing to twenty-three killings and revealing his identity. He claims he is terminally ill and wants to repent. Most of his victims, he says, were vile people; only the last, a young man in his early twenties, was innocent. He describes the torture in detail and begs the public to help find the boy's remains so he can rest in peace.
At first, few believe him. Only Grace Whitman replies, insisting the poster is Samuel Yates, the man she once loved. She is certain he is faking it to win her back, even as she prepares to marry Zachary Wilson. What Grace does not know is that Samuel is the twenty-third corpse, and that he died protecting her.
As a search team scours the mountains, Grace keeps calling Samuel, unaware the truth is buried where she is looking.
Opening
A murderer who had been on the run for years suddenly posted online, exposing his true identity.
He said he was terminally ill and didn’t have long to live.
He wanted to repent to the boy he had ultimately killed.
“There were 23 victims. Twenty-two of them were vile people.”
“Only the last boy was truly innocent.”
“I was deceived back then and wrongly harmed a good person. I regret it deeply.”
“I hope that after seeing this post, everyone can help me find his remains.”
“So he can finally rest in peace.”
