The story
Anneliese Cantrell has lived for three years with intermittent amnesia, and every time her memories vanish, a different man poses as her husband, Lucien Rook. What none of them know is that her amnesia was cured two years ago, and she has been quietly watching the deception unfold.
When Lucien's best friend, Seth Kaplan, takes his turn playing her husband, Anneliese decides to stop playing along. She draws Seth close, then lets him bring her to a bar where Lucien is openly embracing another woman, Holly Saunders. As Lucien's friends keep up the charade, Anneliese tests how far she can push before the man who once swore to protect her turns violent.
An orphan with no one else to rely on, Anneliese must decide how much of the truth she is willing to reveal.

The third year after I got diagnosed with intermittent amnesia, I happened to overhear my husband, Lucien Rook, chatting with his friends.
“Lucien, Anneliese loses her memories every couple of months, and you keep making us impersonate you to live with her. Aren’t you afraid that one of us might take it all the way one day?”
