The story
On his thirtieth birthday, Rodrick receives a diagnosis of leukemia and roughly a year to live. Before he can tell his six-month-pregnant wife, Mia, she calls to say she no longer wants the twins she fought so hard to conceive, and she goes through with an induced abortion despite his pleas.
At the hospital, Rodrick finds Mia in the arms of Mateo Ferrari, her childhood sweetheart who has returned from overseas with cancer. She admits she ended the pregnancy to bear Mateo a son, and when Rodrick confronts him, she shields Mateo and demands an apology. Rodrick must decide what remains of a marriage built on a love she never let go of.
Opening
In order to bear her childhood sweetheart's child, who returned from overseas with a terminal illness, my wife, Mia,
insisted on aborting our six-month-old twin daughters.
"It's worth it to exchange two lives for the continuation of his family name.
"Can you stop being so petty? Do you want to lose me after losing our children?"
I told her that I had advanced stage cancer.
She, however, wore a disdainful expression.
"I hate it to see you imitating him.
"If you die, it would be for the best. In this case, I'm not giving birth to any fatherless child. It's all for the best now!"
