The story
On their wedding day, Arthur Vance told Elena Thorne she could have a divorce whenever she wanted. Two months later, on the night Chloe Thorne returns, Elena places the divorce agreement before him. Arthur looks out at the rain and says he is in a bad mood, so they will divorce next time. Then he blocks her messages.
Elena knows her place. Chloe was the one meant to marry Arthur in the arranged union, but she ran away, and Elena was pushed into her sister's place. Arthur never resisted, saying he had no right to refuse. Yet he has faithfully played the good husband, and Elena cannot tell whether she is truly loved.
Called back to the family estate, Elena finds Chloe surrounded by relatives who joke about swapping sisters. Her father, Richard Thorne, warns her not to anger the Vance family, and Arthur is there to hear it all.
Opening
That's what Arthur Vance told me on our wedding day.
I believed him.
Two months later, on the day his true love returned, I placed the divorce agreement in front of him.
Arthur looked out the window, his expression flat.
"It's raining.
"I'm in a bad mood. Let's divorce next time."
Me: ???
On the very night Chloe Thorne returned.
Fueled by liquid courage, I slept with Arthur Vance.
