The story
Ruth Spencer wakes in the hospital on the very day her husband, Zayne Colman, is meant to leave for a project at the country border. In her previous life she fell ill to keep him home, so her younger sister, Reagan Spencer, went in his place and died at the hands of a scam syndicate. For ten years Zayne played the devoted husband, until the day she gave birth and he let her and their child die, blaming her for Reagan's death.
Now Ruth says nothing to stop the trip. Her mother-in-law, Pamela Kinsley, and her own mother urge Zayne and Reagan to set off, and Ruth watches them go. Then Reagan posts a photo of herself leaning on Zayne, and a video call follows: Reagan in a bathrobe, Zayne's excuses, and the black card meant for the Heart of the Ocean necklace Ruth once begged for.
Ruth hides her fury, ends the call, and discharges herself from the hospital. Back in the home she once shared with Zayne, she begins clearing out everything that belongs to him.
Opening
In my previous life, I, Ruth Spencer, fell seriously ill. Because of that, I managed to stop my husband, Zayne Colman, from going on a business trip to the country border.
He immediately canceled his flight, pulled me into his arms, and gently comforted me.
Over the phone, he gave instructions to my younger sister, Reagan Spencer. "The project comes first. You go in my place."
But no one could have known that the so-called business partner was actually a ruthless scam syndicate. Reagan had her organs harvested and was tortured to death.
