The story
At her rehearsal dinner, Maren watches the groomsmen's game of Couples' Trivia turn against her. Kendall answers every question about Owen with intimate certainty, then snatches Maren's veil and settles onto Owen's lap. Owen does not push her away; he only straightens the veil on Kendall's head. The veil belonged to Maren's mother, who did not live to see her marry.
Owen soothes Maren instead of defending her, jokes with Kendall, and drives her home while Maren takes his car. At the house, Maren finds a black lace petal in the master bedroom drawer, then hears Kendall's voice through the phone from the guest room shower. Owen calls Maren's hurt a tantrum and insists she is not going anywhere.
On the night before the wedding, Maren must decide what eight years of waiting is worth.
