The story

For three years, Elena has played the perfect Mrs. Vance, hiding her claws inside the Vance family's gilded cage. The truth about her father's death lies locked in the family's underground vault, and until she can reach it, she must endure. Her mother-in-law Victoria surrounds her with twelve bodyguards who track her location, heart rate and spending around the clock, and her husband Julian dismisses every bruise as professional care.

When a crushed lipstick and a midnight voice note push her to the floor, Elena finally presses a hidden button on the old watch the guards always dismissed as junk. The signal reaches the Shadow Squad through the heart-rate tracker she was forced to wear. Marcus Kane hears her whisper the coordinates, and by morning Victoria arrives with Dr. Miller and the family lawyer Richard Cole, ready to declare her mentally unfit and seize control of her father's estate.

Trapped between a rigged evaluation and a conservatorship, Elena must decide how much longer she can keep smiling.
