The story
Born with a failing heart, Summer Vance's parents adopted Chloe Mercer, a girl born at the same hour, to serve as her astrological shield. Chloe was raised as a second daughter, given elite schooling, society connections and an endless allowance.
On Summer's wedding day to her childhood sweetheart Ethan Cole, Chloe collapses before the guests with a terminal cancer diagnosis, accusing the Vance family of transferring Summer's illness to her through dark rituals, of starvation, beatings and worse. Ethan lifts the trembling Chloe into his arms, denounces Summer as a monster and walks out, vowing to stay by Chloe until she recovers.
But the shielding rituals were stopped years ago, and Summer's illness never improved. As she coughs up blood and the guests' whispers close in, she must face a groom who has already chosen to believe the lie.
