The story

Elena has pampered her three pets—Apollo the calico cat, Styx the black snake, and Gizmo the hedgehog—like treasured darlings. Her wealthy friend Zara adores them and keeps joking that Elena should sell them to her. Then floating text appears above Zara's head, revealing a cruel truth: the pets are male leads waiting for Elena, a mere cannon fodder, to die so they can go home with the female lead. They have only been using her for their transformation.

Cold rage settles in Elena. She offers to sell them for ten thousand each, and Zara, though flustered, takes Apollo home. Alone with Styx and Gizmo, Elena finds the snake's cold eyes fixed on her, his tongue flickering, while the hedgehog bristles. When Styx bites her, she no longer has patience for gentle devotion—she pins him firmly behind the head and lifts him up.

Opening

My rich friend was obsessed with them, always joking,

“Your little darlings are so gorgeous and well-behaved, why don’t you just sell them to me? Name your price!”

I never took her seriously, but then the floating text appeared above her head:

When is this cannon fodder going to die! If you can’t care for them, don’t keep them. Our male leads are starving on her cheap food, it’s heartbreaking! They wouldn’t even bother with her if they didn’t need her for their transformation!
