The story
For three years, Sera Montgomery has been a pink card in her husband Preston's color-coded world—an errand, never a priority. While she sits alone in their Chicago penthouse, he celebrates a new development deal with Lyra Reed, the star intern he calls too valuable to lose.
When the kidney meant for Sera's younger brother Finn is suddenly reallocated, she begs Preston for help. He tells her to grab a pink card and hand it to Arthur, his head of staff, then hangs up. Days later, at the crematorium, Arthur lets slip that the deal was sealed because the developer's mistress received a life-saving transplant—the same day Finn's organ vanished. Lyra, it seems, found a perfect match out of nowhere.
Clutching her brother's ashes, Sera walks into a divorce attorney's office. She wants no alimony, no assets—only out. Arthur signs as Preston's proxy, and Preston never even reads the papers. But when Sera tries to leave the penthouse for good, Preston grabs her wrist.
