Never Truly Her Husband

For three years, Jim has served as Caroline Walter's assistant by day and her secret husband by night, their marriage hidden from everyone. When her childhood sweetheart Brett Dawson returns from London, Caroline throws him a lavish welcome-back party and publicly announces their engagement, handing out bonus checks to the room — including one to Jim. No one there knows she is already married.

Back at their penthouse, Caroline presents Jim with a marital dissolution agreement. She explains that the Walters and the Dawsons arranged the alliance years ago, and that Brett's family investigators would uncover Jim if their legal status is not cleared. She asks him to sign, promising they can remarry once she secures her voting majority. Then Brett lets himself in with his own key.

Weeks later, at the Walter family estate, Caroline arrives with Brett — and finds Jim there, invited by her grandmother.
