The story
On her wedding day, Leticia is left at the altar once more by Don James Colombo, who rushes away because Angelina, his terminally ill childhood sweetheart, is in the ICU. It is the ninth time he has postponed their wedding for Angelina, and each abandonment leaves Leticia to face her furious father and the lash. This time she does not cry. She packs in silence and lets James see the scars across her back, then asks him to transfer the northern route to her as compensation for her family. Distracted by Angelina's call, he signs without reading, never seeing that the page is the agreement dissolving their engagement. Lucas, her loyal right hand, brings new identity papers and flight documents. In one month, she will be gone.
Opening
"Angelina is in the ICU," he said. "The ceremony will have to wait."
It was the ninth time he had abandoned me for his terminally ill childhood sweetheart.
The first time, she had run away from home, and he could not rest easy. "Angelina is missing, yet you want me to stand here toasting at the wedding? Don't be so selfish, Leticia."
