The story
In Borevia City, Axel Alwyn, heir to Alwyn Corp, is paralyzed after a car crash, and his hold on the family empire is suddenly in doubt. At the Twyford mansion, Rory—the girl raised in Thea's place—begs Thea to marry Axel instead. When Thea refuses, her boyfriend Jared Pritchard announces he is engaged to Rory, and her biological parents, Richard and Diane Twyford, order her to take Rory's place as Mrs. Alwyn.
Thea agrees, but on two conditions: her grandfather's fifteen percent stake in Twyford Corp must be transferred to her, and her parents must hold a press conference naming her their only biological daughter. Richard accepts, warning her she is theirs no more. The press conference damages the Twyfords' reputation, and Thea signs the shares into her name.
At the Alwyn estate, the silent Axel accuses the Twyfords of sending a small-town nobody to humiliate him. But Thea notices the muscles in his legs twitch—and she knows nerve rehab well enough to doubt that his nerves are truly dead.
Opening
Borevia City's golden-boy heir crashed his car and ended up paralyzed from the waist down. Just like that, his shot at taking over Alwyn Corp was on the line.
The second the news hit the Twyford mansion, Rory—the girl my parents had raised instead of me—came to me in tears, begging me to take her place and marry Axel.
I tightened my grip on my water glass and laughed. "Seriously? You used to act like I was embarrassing because I grew up in a small town. You said I wasn't classy enough for your crowd, so you handed my engagement to Rory.
