The story
For six years, Demi kept her marriage to Elaine a secret. Now he wants to protect his young girlfriend Lily from being called a homewrecker, so he asks that no one ever know they were married. Demi agrees, quietly adding an extra zero to the property division. When Lily asks Elaine to marry her, he says yes, then strips Demi of Julia's project and hands it to Lily.
Demi hands in a resignation letter she prepared half a year ago, and asks for a divorce at the same time. Elaine demands that no one learn of the marriage or the divorce, so Lily's name stays clean. Demi signs, takes her things, and leaves the company behind.
At home, without work to fill her days, Demi waits. Her assistant reports that Elaine has been raging, and warns that he will soon realize his mistake.
Opening
In the sixth year of my concealed marriage with Elaine, we decided to quietly part ways. He wanted to protect his young girlfriend from being labeled as a homewrecker. He said, "I want no one to know we were ever married." I nodded silently and added an extra zero during the property division. Elaine's expression shifted.
"Is money all that matters to you?" he questioned.
I laughed softly. "After all these years, you know me best."
Elaine ended up in the hospital from drinking too much. A nurse asked, "Who is the patient's family?"
