The story
In a small town, Clara saves her husband Ethan Vance from a fatal fall by acting as his human cushion, shattering her arm and suffering severe internal bleeding. Pressured by gossip that he owes her his life, Ethan reluctantly marries her, though he never stops loving his first love, Sarah. After forty years of thankless devotion, Clara dies alone in a nursing home, despised by the children who believed she trapped their father.
Then Clara wakes forty years in the past, back on the day Ethan climbs the utility pole. This time she stands far away and lets him fall—or not. When Ethan senses the danger and climbs down, he sneers that someone would have gotten a bargain. Clara, no longer his doormat, walks away and rushes to claim the college admission letter she lost in her previous life.
Now she must decide whether to let Ethan have the romance he always wanted, while she finally chooses herself.
Opening
He walked away with a few scratches. I shattered my right arm and suffered severe internal bleeding.
Later, pressured by the town's gossip about how he owed me his life, he reluctantly married me.
But Ethan never loved me. One night, in a drunken stupor, I heard his true feelings.
"If I had known I'd be shackled to Clara for the rest of my life, I would have been better off dying in that fall!"
I felt like I had been plunged into an ice bath.
