The Day the Family Applauded My Downfall

Chloe Vance, thirty-two, built a food trading company from nothing, employing twelve people and paying half a million dollars in taxes each year. In her family, none of it counts. Every praise goes to her cousin Brian Walsh, whose failed ventures include a bubble tea shop, a food truck and an e-commerce attempt. When she lent him fifty thousand dollars, he never repaid a cent, and her aunt Brenda called her cold-blooded for asking.

Now Brian claims her books are dirty and that she commits tax fraud, saying he has proof. At Easter dinner, Chloe catches four words on his phone: materials received. She has already asked her accountant, Sarah, to finalize a full internal audit, and restricted the office security cameras so only she can view them.

Her family applauds the cousin who reported her. Chloe is done staying quiet.
