The Don's Hidden Heirs

For eight years, Elena has been married to Matteo, a Mafia Don in Palermo. When his enemies ambushed them, she took the blade meant for his heart, and the doctors told her she would likely never conceive. Matteo swore he needed only her.

Then she finally holds her pregnancy report, and sees him enter another house, where a woman takes his coat and twins run out calling him Daddy. In his safe she finds birth certificates and a trust naming Leo Moretti and Lorenzo Moretti, with Sofia Castiglia as guardian, notarized six years earlier. She tells him nothing, hides the ultrasound, and turns to Alexei, a man she once saved, to plan a faked death.

On the fifteenth, Matteo comes home for dinner, gentle and watchful, while she smiles and asks what would happen if she disappeared. He answers that he would find her anywhere. Three days from now, on their anniversary, the car will burn, and she will leave Sicily by cargo ship with the child in her belly.
