The story
Felix and his twin brother Ollie both earn admission to their sister Jasmine's alma mater. On move-in day, Jasmine drives Ollie to campus and leaves Felix to haul his own suitcases. At the quad, she tells Ollie she has moved him into Felix's spot in the Finance program, and Ollie suggests Felix take his place in Vocal Performance instead. Felix, who relies on a hearing aid after being injured in a house fire, cannot study music.
At the registration desk, the advisor finds Felix enrolled in Vocal Performance, not Finance. Jasmine arrives and orders the advisor to sign Ollie in, then drags Felix away. When Felix calls the dean, Jasmine rips out his hearing aid, and the call drops. She warns every business near campus not to hire, feed, or shelter him. Street thugs beat him, and Jasmine appears, handing him a replacement hearing aid molded for Ollie that does not fit.
Felix refuses to surrender his future, but his sister controls the ground beneath his feet.
Opening
My twin brother Ollie and I got into our sister’s alma mater. On move-in day, she drove him to campus and left me hauling my own heavy suitcases. I gripped my Finance acceptance letter tight, heart pounding with anticipation. My sister had always been my idol, and now I was finally catching up.
When I reached the dorms, she had already unpacked for Ollie. They sat together on a bench in the campus quad. She told him she had spoken to the dean and moved him into my spot in the Finance program.
