The story
After her fiancé Adrian Blackwood sends her to a psychiatric hospital on an isolated island, Claire Bennett endures a year of electroshock therapy. When he finally arrives by helicopter to bring her home, she has forgotten how to love him. He presents a diamond ring and insists their wedding will proceed as planned, but she asks him to cancel it.
At the villa, she avoids his kiss and moves into the guest room, remembering the surveillance video of him with her best friend Sophia Lane, who wore her mother's pearl necklace. Late at night she overhears him on the phone, gently indulging another woman about a ring and a new apartment.
Adrian Blackwood tells his friends that if she learns the truth, she will make a scene and then behave as always. But Claire no longer minds. She quietly packs for a distant seaside town, a lighthouse and waves, without him.
Opening
Every time my fiancé found a mistress, I would order a male escort at a nightclub.
Until I caught him and my best friend in bed, and in a frenzy, I slept with his best friend, Ethan Hayes.
