The story
For ten years, Gina set aside her own place at the Vienna Conservatory to guide Adrian from a struggling street musician to a world-renowned virtuoso, sitting in the front row of every concert. He promised that the encore of his final tour, a piece called "Homeward" — the first she ever wrote for him — would be dedicated to her.
At the last stop, Adrian changes the program and credits the piece to Zora, his new protégé, insisting the young performer needs the exposure. He asks Gina to hand over her original drafts so Zora can appear its author on camera, warning her not to make a scene.
As applause fills the hall, Gina quietly reclaims a broken piano wire kept from the path she never took, while a message from the Composers and Lyricists Association confirms the copyright she filed for "Homeward".
Opening
In the ten years since, he went from an obscure, struggling street musician to a world-renowned virtuoso. For every single one of his concerts, I sat in the very front row. He promised me that once this tour ended, he would dedicate the encore—a piece called "Homeward"—to me.
It was the first piece I had ever written for him.
But at the final stop of the tour, he changed the program at the last minute.
