The Night Caller

Dr. Lillian Hayes, Chief of Obstetrics at City General, has a neighbor problem. Brenda, the pregnant woman next door, has decided that Lillian owes her free medical care, and she hammers on the door at three in the morning demanding check-ups. When Lillian refuses, Brenda shrieks in the hallway, accuses her of trying to murder her unborn child, and insists the baby is a once-in-a-generation miracle destined for greatness.

The nightly disturbances have the whole building up in arms, and the property manager is at a loss. Brenda escalates, demanding twenty thousand dollars for her medical expenses and slandering Lillian to anyone who will listen. Lillian, who has never lost her temper before, finally snaps and calls the police. When they arrive, Brenda bursts into tears and plays the victim.

Meanwhile, Lillian has found a possible solution: a new tenant, an insomniac who just beat up his own neighbor, is moving in at the end of the month.
