The story
A woman travels to Seaport to surprise Liam, her long-distance boyfriend six years her junior, whose college years she has funded. He greets her with a bouquet of lisianthus, but his frozen smile and guilty eyes betray him, and his phone buzzes with friends mocking her as his older sugar mommy.
At the entertainment complex, the promised simple get-together proves to be a smoky VIP room where Liam's frat brothers tease him about Lily, the girl for whom the flowers were meant. When Lily licks Liam's face clean and his friends urge the older woman to save face, she smashes a wine bottle against his head, and Liam insists he struck himself.
As the bouncers turn toward her, the room waits to see whether she will be held to account.
Opening
I suddenly appeared in front of my long-distance boyfriend.
He looked fresh and clean, holding a bouquet of lisianthus.
"Liam."
The moment he turned and saw me, the smile on his face froze.
His eyes were filled with nothing but guilt and fear. "What are you doing here?"
I looked down and smiled.
Even though I hadn't seen the girl with my own eyes yet.
I knew there was no point in agonizing over it anymore.
I asked, knowing the answer perfectly well, "Aren't you happy to see me?"
Liam kept repeating his question, "Why, why are you here?"
