The story
During an emergency layover in an Infestation Hotspot, Natalie relives the moment her billionaire husband Derek abandoned their five-year-old daughter to the Undead, dismissing it as fate. This time she secretly books Maddie onto an earlier private charter and watches her leave safely. Then the gate agent announces that a child from their own flight is still stranded in the terminal, and the cabin erupts. Derek, certain his staged sacrifice is unfolding as planned, declares himself ready to take off and assume all liability, while his sister Becca and sister-in-law Diane urge Natalie to stay calm. Natalie alone knows the missing child is not hers, yet she cannot let another die. When she asks Derek to wait, the passengers turn on her.
Opening
During our emergency layover in the Infestation Hotspot, my five-year-old daughter was left behind.
I remember kneeling on the floor of the private jet, sobbing, clawing at my billionaire husband’s tailored suit, begging him to save her. He looked down at me with eyes as cold as a morgue slab.
