I took out predatory loans totaling $60,000 in one go.

Then I called my parents, refusing any further allowance, and applied for off-campus housing. I would live off existing supplies.

Despite this, my chest felt tight. The System's drain on my health was still real.

At noon, walking out of the campus gates with my small bag, I saw Tiffany and Matt waiting by the road, followed by a crowd of sycophants.

Seeing me, their faces twisted into sneers.

"Chloe!"

Tiffany shouted, running towards me with a look of joy:

"What a coincidence! We were just talking about you. I thought, 'give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.' I decided not to just give you money anymore, but help you find a job!"

Money really works wonders. Tiffany was decked out in designer gear, her insecurity gone.

She looked nothing like the girl who used to eat plain rice and potatoes.

I wondered what dark magic she used to bind me to this System.

She shoved a stack of flyers into my hand, looking at me earnestly:

"These are high-paying jobs I picked for you. Once you earn money with your own hands and donate it, people won't hate you anymore."

"I strained my eyes looking for these. I'm taking everyone to a five-star hotel for lunch. This time, it's your treat."

I had never seen such brazenness. Taking my parents' money and making me work to support her further?

The flyers were garbage. Some were even ads for selling eggs!

Matt and the crowd walked over, sneering:

"Chloe, why are you standing there? Some jobs need you to apply now. They won't wait."

"Tiffany's parents just sent her another $60,000. That's enough for your parents to retire on, and you're just standing here?"

I noticed a flashy Rolex on Matt's wrist, worth at least tens of thousands. Clearly a gift.

I smirked. Tiffany was spending big to chase a guy. No wonder she was desperate for my money.

"I think as a student, I should focus on studying," I smiled. "From now on, I'll live on $300 a month. Not a penny more. Feel free to supervise."

I turned to leave, but someone grabbed my arm.

"Is this the attitude a charity case takes with her benefactor?"

Matt shook me off like I was trash:

"Tiffany was kind enough to find you jobs. Why won't you go? Do you like being a parasite?!"

His cold stare overlapped with the look he gave the people who murdered me in my past life. My breath hitched.

He threw me to the ground and walked away with Tiffany. A realization hit me.

Matt didn't treat me this way just to please Tiffany. He genuinely hated me.
