It was a long time before my family's driver finally arrived in the Rolls-Royce.
I was drenched in sweat.
He parked leisurely, honking twice for me to come over.
"Uncle Mike, why are you so late?"
I was on the verge of heatstroke, my back soaked.
He was clearly in a good mood, but hearing my complaint, he stiffened:
"You know, you need to fix that princess attitude. I'm your driver, not your slave. I'm your elder, show some respect."
"It was just a short wait. No other girl is as delicate as you. I wouldn't let my son date someone like you!"
I looked at my phone, scrolling through my classmates' posts.
[OMG, Matt's family is loaded! We rode in a Rolls-Royce! So this is the starlight headliner!]
[So fancy! Next time I hope there's a Maybach!]
[If we didn't waste time lecturing that shameless pauper, we would have been enjoying the AC sooner!]
I froze. Wasn't that my car?
I did a quick background check. Uncle Mike's son... was Matt!
It all made sense. No wonder my attempts to prove my identity were always thwarted. There was a mole.
And no wonder Matt wanted me dead. He and Tiffany were in this together!
My hand slowly touched the necklace Matt had "borrowed" during orientation.
It seemed that was when Tiffany, the poor student, suddenly became rich. I used a meal card and didn't check my balance often, giving her the opening.
"Miss Chloe, what are you doing?"
Uncle Mike slammed the brakes, looking at my hand in the rearview mirror with panic.
"That's the coming-of-age gift from the Madam. You're not taking it off, are you?"
His reaction confirmed everything.
"Of course not. Just touching it."
I laughed and closed my eyes. The driver let out a sigh of relief.
Back at the villa, I immediately took off the necklace and called my dad to fire Uncle Mike for rudeness.
After a meal prepared by our French chef, I lay in bed.
Sure enough, without the necklace, the tightness in my chest vanished. It felt like a heavy stone had been lifted.
Not wanting to alert them, I found a duplicate necklace in my jewelry box and put it on.
Now, Tiffany, all you have left is that $60,000 debt.
