The story
When a young intern deletes a three-cent figure from the general ledger index, the Finance Director Vivian King and her team are forced into three straight all-nighters to reconcile the books. The intern, Skylar, insists she was merely curious, then tosses down a dollar and tries to walk out, only to find Vivian blocking the door with a warning about felony charges and a federal penitentiary.
Summoned by Skylar's tearful voice note, CEO Marcus arrives and sides with the intern. He dismisses the missing index as basic arithmetic, refuses to look at the IRS pre-audit alert on Vivian's screen, and threatens to overhaul the Finance Department. He leaves with Skylar for an omakase dinner, prompting the bookkeeper Lisa to quit on the spot.
Rather than walk out, Vivian orders her team to lock away the original receipts, back up every modification, and pull the security footage of Skylar's confession. By morning, her desk is gone, her belongings boxed, and Skylar is spinning in her chair, tearing through the vouchers.
Opening
"Where the hell did the three cents go?"
"Oh my God, just let us go home already!" The intern who’d been gaming in the corner suddenly snapped.
"I deleted those three cents. I saw the line of numbers was off-kilter, and my OCD kicked in. It was driving me crazy, so I just hit delete."
"And because you were feeling 'driven crazy,' twelve of us have pulled three straight all-nighters?" I shot back.
