The story
Born premature and frail, with a large birthmark on her face, Skye Brooks was left with her grandmother in the countryside while her Oscar-winning father and Grammy-winning mother raised her younger sister, Vivian, in the spotlight. For eighteen years the letters and photographs her grandmother sent went unanswered.
Now, with nowhere else to stay, Skye arrives at her parents' house for the first time. Her father frowns at her hat, sunglasses and mask; her mother mocks her; Vivian offers pitying compliments about looks not mattering. None of them have ever seen her face. When Skye finally speaks, her voice stops her mother cold.
A private charity gala is being prepared for Vivian, and the press will be there. Skye has already registered for an early dorm move-in, and her luggage stays packed.

My father was an Oscar-winning actor, and my mother was a Grammy-winning singer. They had built their lives around beauty, fame, and the image of a perfect family.
Then I was born premature, frail, and with a large birthmark covering part of my face.
I wasn't the daughter they wanted the public to see, so they left me with my grandmother in the countryside and raised my younger sister, Vivian, instead.
