The story
For years, Lyneth De Luca has lived as a shadow inside the house of Caelan, the man she loved. She gave up her birthright as the daughter of a feared Don for his promises, yet she is treated as a servant—keeping the accounts, washing jackets, and going unnoticed by the family she raised. On her forty-eighth birthday, no one toasts her name. Caelan polishes his pistol and mocks her dreams of a voyage across the ocean, while her son Salvatore and grandsons Marco and Allesio sneer at her.
When Bianca, her radiant sister-in-law, hosts an exclusive celebration at the Luciana estate, Lyneth is deliberately left behind. The family departs without a backward glance, and Marco declares they love Bianca more. Alone in the empty hall, Lyneth retrieves a worn crimson satchel and stares at her hardened hands. She once commanded respect; now she has no estate, no crown, no authority.
Perhaps the greatest gift she can give herself is freedom—from the house, from the legacy, and from him.
