The story
Ten days after Vanessa is buried by an avalanche on Saint Lorenzo Snow Mountain, her husband Caden finally remembers her — only because Kelly Turner, his high school sweetheart, needs a bone marrow transplant and Vanessa is the perfect match. He returns home with a consent form, unaware that Vanessa is already dead, and that their unborn child died with her. When she cannot be found, he bombards her phone with messages, threatening to cut off her mother's medical treatment if she does not sign.
Vanessa lingers as a ghost, watching Caden care for Kelly in the hospital and call her his silly girl. A neighbour mentions her funeral, but Caden dismisses it as a trick, certain she is hiding to avoid the donation. Her mother, who rushed up the mountain to save her, was killed by wild wolves.
Still bound to the man who abandoned her, Vanessa can only watch as Caden vows to turn the world upside down to find her.

He came home holding a donation consent form, ready for me to sign, only to find the house empty.
Kelly leaned weakly against him. "Vanessa must really hate me.
