The story
On Thanksgiving, which falls on her mother's sixtieth birthday, a wife watches her husband Simon's assistant, Camille, arrive at the family brownstone with two cheap gas-station pecan pies instead of a gift. When glowing messages appear before her eyes, she learns the pies are bait and that Camille is scheming to destroy her marriage. Camille then demands her parents vacate the home immediately, claiming the property must serve as collateral for Simon's firm, though the messages insist the house is protected by an irrevocable trust and that Camille is recording every reaction.
Holding her composure, the wife agrees to leave by nightfall, secretly recording Camille's words. With rental offices closed for the holiday, she and her ailing parents search for shelter, only to be turned away by landlords wary of elderly tenants. At a hotel, Simon's emergency credit card is declined, leaving her stranded with no way to reach him while he is locked in overseas arbitrations.
