The story
Ethan Gray once used his family's sponsorship to force Seraphina Vance to stay by his side, threatening to cut off the funding that kept her grandmother alive. He spoiled her, cooked for her, and tried to win a love she never freely gave, while she silently hated him for tearing her away from Julian Sterling, the son of his family's sworn enemies.
Then his parents were framed and died, the family business collapsed, and enemies left a metal fragment lodged in his brain. The doctors gave him five years. Now, in his final year, he returns to the city as a homeless beggar, only to see Seraphina, now a billionaire CEO, announce her engagement to Julian. When she offers him food on the street, he hides his face, certain she cannot recognize the ruined man he has become.
Yet he has come back for two reasons: to learn the truth behind his parents' deaths, and to understand why Seraphina betrayed him.
Opening
I once used dirty tricks to force the girl my parents sponsored to stay with me.
I spoiled her rotten. I cooked for her, washed her clothes, and even paid to cure her grandmother’s paralysis.
Later, my parents were framed and died in a horrific accident, and my enemies left a sharp metal fragment wedged deep in my brain.
The doctors said I wouldn't live past five years.
But she turned around and held the hand of my enemy's son.
I knew he was the one that got away, her first love. She had always hated me for tearing them apart.
So, I turned around and left, brokenhearted.
