The story
At a New York family gathering, Julian Ford publicly shreds his wife Sarah's ultrasound report, declaring his congenital asthenospermia makes her pregnancy a lie. As the crowd mocks her, he comforts his godsister Lily, and Sarah realizes that for the unloved, even pregnancy is a sin. She touches her belly and leaps from the yacht, calling her child a gift from a ghost.
Five years later, a miniature version of Julian outbids him at an auction, and Sarah reappears in cargo pants and combat boots, claiming to be the boy's father, not Julian's ex-wife. She pays fifty million for the land, revealing a scar from deep-sea salvage. Julian blocks her exit, demanding a DNA test to prove the boy is no Ford.
When Lily feigns illness, Julian rushes her away, leaving Sarah and the child guarded. Sarah calls an encrypted number, and days later at the marina, Julian offers the paternity results only if she dives for Lily's lost heirloom ring in the freezing sea.
Opening
Everyone in New York's elite circle knew that Julian Ford would lie about anything to protect his "godsister," Lily.
At a family gathering, he publicly tore my ultrasound report to shreds.
"I have congenital asthenospermia. If you want to trap me, Sarah, you'll need a better lie than a pregnancy."
Under the mocking gazes of the crowd, he tenderly wiped a tear from Lily's eye.
