The story
On the day she divorces her fifty-year-old CEO husband, Chloe dresses in crimson and tells Ethan Vance she is marrying someone he knows. He dismisses it as a lie, then drives her not to City Hall but toward Mia Harper, the woman he says has waited over twenty years. In the car, Mia takes the passenger seat and Chloe's bag; when the leather is found slashed, Ethan hurls it at her, smashes her phone, and accuses her of being manipulative, leaving her to limp to City Hall alone.
There, the paperwork is done and Mia clings to Ethan, offering Chloe a ride. Chloe waits on a bench for the man she says is coming to marry her, but no one arrives and her phone is gone. When Mia falls on the stairs, she blames Chloe, and Ethan drags her down before driving off with Mia. Limping to a police station, Chloe accepts a ride home.
Opening
The day I divorced my fifty-year-old CEO husband, I wore a full face of makeup and a bright, crimson red dress.
A flicker of impatience crossed Ethan Vance's elegant features.
"Dressed so festively. Are you getting married today?"
I ran my fingers through my newly permed curls, the image of that handsome face floating into my mind.
I couldn't help but smile: "As a matter of fact, yes."
"And you actually know the guy."
Hearing this, a cold sneer appeared on his face:
"The people in my circle are all famously devoted husbands.
