The story
Four months pregnant, Iris goes with her husband Leo, an OB/GYN, for her prenatal report. The doctor says the baby is healthy, but the moment Leo reads the paper his smile vanishes. He drags her toward the abortion clinic, hissing that the baby cannot be born. When Iris calls her parents, both OB/GYNs, her father lunges at her belly and her mother orders her locked in with men. Her baby is lost, and she is committed and tortured to death.
She wakes back on the day of the test. This time Iris takes the report first, determined to learn what turned her family into monsters. But Leo takes it from her purse, and when she screams for help in the crowded corridor, her father reads the page and turns on her too.
What is written on the report that makes everyone she loves want her child dead?
Opening
His smile froze when he saw the report. He grabbed my arm, steel grip dragging me toward the abortion clinic.
I stood stunned—my doctor had just said the baby was healthy.
I pulled free. "Why?"
He ignored me, already scheduling the procedure. When I tried to run, he hissed, "This baby cannot be born."
I called my parents—both OB/GYNs. My doting father raised a fist at my belly. My mother trembled. "No… not like this."
