The story

When her husband Ethan loses his memory in a car accident, he remembers nothing of their marriage and falls for the young woman who pulled him from the wreckage. Now he shoves divorce papers at Chloe, demanding she leave with nothing, while his pregnant new love Summer waits in the wings. His mother begs Chloe to hold on, swearing his memory will return.

Chloe has endured three years of his cruelty, his grand gestures for another woman, and his cold contempt. But she has quietly regained memories of her own—of the wilderness expeditions and the life she belonged to before she ever became a wife. This time she signs without hesitation and books a flight out of the country.

Yet Summer is desperate to speak with her, and Ethan's family still clings to her as a daughter. What Chloe truly is, and where she truly belongs, is about to surface.

Opening

He shoved a divorce agreement in my face with sneering contempt, demanding I leave with absolutely nothing.

He humiliated me in every way he could, terrified I would break down in tears and beg him to stay, just like I had before.
