The story
When a strange woman's intimate message appears on her doctor boyfriend's phone, Chloe demands the truth. Nick admits he developed feelings for Vanessa, a former patient, but swears he will cut her off. Chloe forgives him, and the wedding goes ahead as planned.
On their wedding day, a colleague bursts in: Vanessa knows Nick is getting married, and she is coding. Nick runs out without looking back, leaving Chloe at the altar. His assistant Chris insists it is a matter of life and death, that Vanessa only trusts Nick. For four hours Chloe makes seventy-six calls; he never answers. She collapses and wakes in a hospital, where a nurse tells her she is in a delicate condition.
As Vanessa's crises keep pulling Nick away, Chloe learns her own recovery is failing and that she may not be able to get pregnant again. When he chooses the hospital once more, she walks out into the rain, telling him that once something is broken, it can never be put back together.

When a strange woman’s intimate message appeared on my doctor boyfriend’s phone, I placed it squarely before him and demanded an explanation.
After a long silence, Nick confessed:
“She was a former patient, a severe case. I admit… I developed… different feelings.”
“But Chloe,” he pleaded, “we’ve been through so much since college. I’ll cut her off completely.”
