The story

On New Year's Eve, a young woman receives a message from the downstairs neighbors who were pet-sitting her Corgi, Fluffy. The photo shows a hot pot surrounded by bones, and the voice message says her dog is in the pot. She drives nine hours back to her apartment complex to retrieve his remains and seek justice.

At the neighbors' door, the husband laughs, the wife kicks over a garbage bag spilling Fluffy's bones, and their daughter sings a mocking song. The woman calls the police, and at the station the couple claims the dog bit them and made noise. She produces vaccination records, a dog license, and photos of carpeting she installed after an earlier complaint, exposing their lie.

She demands compensation for her property, but the couple's faces turn sour as the mediation begins.

Opening

There was still half an hour until the New Year's countdown when I received a message from the pet-sitting family.

I opened the chat and saw a cozy photo.

The dining table was filled with various dishes, with a steaming hot pot in the center, surrounded by bones of different sizes.

I was about to wish them a Happy New Year when they sent another ten-second voice message.

The moment I heard its content, I felt as if I'd been plunged into an icy abyss, my whole body trembling.
