The story
After three days out for ovarian cyst surgery, a quiet scholarship student at Westview High returns to find Kendal, the school's golden girl, has posted a photo of her at an OB-GYN clinic on the anonymous gossip forum, implying she had an abortion. Teachers dismiss her records; her mother's planned visit to the principal once ended in humiliation. But this time she has lived it before, and she answers Kendal's post with a timestamped photo of Kendal at the same clinic that afternoon.
As the forum erupts and Kendal's friend Becca rallies the class, Kendal edits her post into a tearful denial, claiming she was visiting a sick aunt on another floor. The mob turns on the scholarship girl again. Yet she stays calm, refusing to beg, and sends Kendal a private message about stilettos, a short skirt, and lip gloss reapplied in the elevator doors.
If Kendal was only visiting her aunt, why was she dressed for someone else?
Opening
I only took three days off for an ovarian cyst removal.
But Kendal, the undisputed golden girl of Westview High, had already posted on the school’s anonymous gossip forum.
“A certain straight-A junior is out ‘sick’? Just bumped into her at the OB-GYN clinic. IYKYK.”
Below it was a photo of my back, clad in a faded hospital gown, clutching my medical file.
