The story
After her third late-term miscarriage, Nora undergoes a total hysterectomy. Carter, her husband, grieves with her and vows they will live a child-free life, promising to love and spoil her like his own child. Nora believes she is married to the most devoted man alive.
Seven years into their child-free marriage, Nora discovers the truth. During his month-long "business trip" each year, Carter has been playing house with another woman, Vivian, and their son, Mason. On their tenth wedding anniversary, Nora waits at the airport to surprise him and watches the boy run into Carter's arms and call him Daddy.
When confronted, Carter shows no panic or guilt, shielding Vivian and Mason behind him. He claims Mason was born from an anonymous sperm donation Vivian tracked him down for, and that the boy has leukemia. Nora is left abandoned on the cold airport floor as Carter and Vivian rush Mason away.
